FIE Session feat HHS (Grants Management)

Wednesday, June 26, 2024 - 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM EDT

Grants are a major method in which the government funds programs and projects. The federal government spent $1.2 trillion in grants to tribal, state, local and territorial governments in fiscal year 2022 – an increase of more than $400 billion from fiscal year 2019. Federal grants comprised approximately 19%of total federal spending for fiscal year 2022.

The growth in the use of grants in federal agencies has necessitated the need to optimize the grants process to ensure timely processing of applications, identify incomplete or noncompliant applications and reduce the manual intervention in the process. In addition, Scammers prey on unsuspecting individuals who are seeking grants on behalf of their organizations. There are also individuals who create fraudulent applications to enrich themselves at the expense of our government.

This session will explore the ongoing work being done by federal agencies in modernizing the grants management process to increase it’s efficiency, speed the processing of legitimate requests and to identify those applications which are noncompliant and/or fraudulent. You’ll hear from leading grants management experts from the Department of Education, Department of Interior, and Administration for Children and Families.
