ACT-IAC Gives Back is an initiative that was rejuvenated in 2022 as a way to channel the passion and energy of ACT-IAC's many volunteers into supporting activities that serve great causes. Throughout the year, ACT-IAC will identify charitable organizations in the Washington, DC region and organize volunteer events to support. "It was such a meaningful experience to be part of the community—not just through a government-industry partnership, but by giving back as ACT-IAC members and honoring the veterans we’ve committed to support. I truly enjoyed meeting technology peers who share the same vision and taking time out of a busy day to connect, engage, and represent Nutanix alongside my team. It reminded me how important it is to pause and contribute to something bigger than ourselves."
- Sheila Jenkins, January 2026
"Participating in the Wreaths Out event at Arlington National Cemetery with ACT-IAC was both humbling and deeply meaningful. Walking among the headstones and helping to remove the wreaths was a small but powerful way to honor the legacy of the men and women who served our country. I appreciated the opportunity to reflect, give back, and contribute to preserving this national tradition of respect."
- Tim Dotterweich, January 2026
"I deeply appreciated the opportunity to pause and reflect on the day that changed the world 24 years ago. Taking time to care for the Alexandria Veterans Cemetery felt like a small but powerful way to honor those who served and those we lost. It was a meaningful reminder of the importance of holding space for reflection and remembrance.
I wanted to do something purposeful on this day to turn remembrance into action. Volunteering alongside others who share that commitment gave the experience an even greater sense of connection and impact."
-Jennifer Adamson, September 2025
"I enjoyed how humbling and powerful it was to be reminded of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for others. I chose to participate because I think there is no greater honor than serving those who served us."
-Sam Kurdi, OnPoint Corp, September 2025
"I chose to participate to be able to connect with fellow ACT-IAC members and help clean up our community. It was refreshing to step away from work, get outside, and contribute to making a positive difference."
-Ben Beatty, OnPoint Corp, July 2025
"I enjoyed the spirit of collaboration and the opportunity to directly contribute to positive change within the community. Volunteering has always been personally fulfilling for me; it truly fills my cup by aligning my actions with my values.
I strongly believe that even small acts can inspire significant change. Participating was important to me because supporting the community is a responsibility I wholeheartedly embrace.
It was inspiring to see diverse individuals come together around a shared purpose, combining innovation with compassion. Experiences like this reinforce my commitment to finding new, impactful ways to give back, and motivate me to continue advocating for collective action toward social good."
-Caitlin Lawrence, Tunlaw Industries, May 2025
"As a former educator, I missed the constant influx of hands-on volunteer opportunities and began to wonder if that sense of service was missing from the GovCon world. That is, until I saw the opportunity to volunteer at AFAC through ACT-IAC Gives Back.
Whether you arrived with friends, coworkers, or didn’t know a single soul, Christina’s leadership created an inclusive and welcoming environment from the start. She ensured everyone felt comfortable, even making thoughtful accommodations for volunteers with physical limitations.
What struck me most was how natural the connections felt. There was no pressure to network or exchange business cards — we got to know each other as people first. We laughed, shared stories, and found common ground in our shared desire to give back. The most meaningful part of the day wasn’t just the impact we made—it was that connection. Conversations felt authentic, and the sense of community was palpable. We bonded over shared values and a collective passion for service, and in those moments, our job titles and companies faded into the background. We were simply like-minded individuals coming together to do good.
The sense of community was genuine, and for the first time in a long while, I felt that same spirit of giving and connection I once had in the classroom. Being surrounded by like-minded people who care about others left me reenergized and more deeply connected to the ACT-IAC mission. I’m truly grateful to ACT-IAC for making space for this kind of meaningful engagement and can’t wait to continue volunteering and actively participating in future ACT-IAC Gives Back events. The impact is real — not just for those we serve, but for those of us who serve together."
-Isabelle Amato, Harmonia, April 2025
"I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with Cocoa Packs at the ACT-IAC Imagine Conference ELC 2024, helping to organize holiday toys for children and families in need. Having participated in similar efforts before, I believe it’s important for children to feel supported and know there are people who truly care about their health and happiness. ACT-IAC’s inclusion of this event fostered a unique sense of unity among attendees, focused solely on giving back. It was a refreshing opportunity to connect and serve, in hopes of making the holiday season a bit brighter for the local community."
-Sally Pfabe, Fearless Solutions, LLC, October 2024
"I had the most amazing time volunteering at the Arlington Food Assistance Center through ACT-IAC!
Giving back to the local community has always been close to my heart, so when I saw this event promoted through the ACT-IAC newsletter, I jumped at the chance to volunteer.
I really liked that while I was giving back, I was also learning. Being new to government services, it was eye-opening to learn about different companies and their missions, and to be able to share more about Bixal's mission to serve underrepresented and multilingual communities. We didn't just talk about business, we talked about life and had some really great genuine conversations.
Whether you're flying solo or with your team, it's a feel-good environment where you can make meaningful connections without any pressure. Can't wait for the next one!"
-Janaye Graham, Bixal, July 2024
"Volunteering at Martha’s Table was truly a rewarding experience. I love helping others. It gives me joy knowing that my efforts contributed to alleviating food insecurity and supporting the community. Seeing the smiles and expressed gratitude by those receiving assistance made it truly fulfilling. Also, the sense of connection with the other volunteers was great. We all shared the same mindset-- to serve and value each participant who came through the line. While working the line, I was reminded of one of my employer’s value’s that also aligns with my personal value, “Human at the Core.” Even though our life journeys are unique, t’s about recognizing our common humanity and interconnectedness at the core. I’m looking forward to the next volunteer opportunity."
-Breena Lewis, DMI, February 2024
"I participated in the honor flight welcoming at DCA on October 21st. I’ve seen honor flights arrive at DCA in the past when I’ve been on work travel and always thought it would be great if the veterans received a hero’s welcome. The invite that came from ACT-IAC Gives Back was the catalyst that energized me to do something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. My two young sons participated as well. The honor flight event gave us an opportunity to talk about what it means to be a veteran and how lucky we are to live in the greatest country on earth. We’ll definitely participate again!"
-Rob Albritton, Octo Consulting, October 2023
"I had an absolutely wonderful time supporting the ACT-IAC Gives Back event at Imagine Nation ELC! I feel lucky to be a part of a community that understands and places importance on the power of giving back and it was heartwarming to see the dedication of all the ACT-IAC volunteers who joined forces to put together 100 gift bags for Caitlin's Smiles, a fantastic local nonprofit. I decided to participate because I wholeheartedly believe in the power of giving back, and it was such a joy to be part of an event that's already brightened the lives of 2.7 million children and is determined to reach even more. The warmth of the volunteers and the chance to make a real difference made this volunteer opportunity truly enjoyable and fulfilling."
