Data Centers-Convergence of Cloud, Data and AI for Innovation

Abstract

Data Centers are the new computational engines for data driven artificial intelligence innovation. I recall the evolutionary process of Federal agencies transitioning to the cloud for many reasons (except innovation) including operational effectiveness and efficiency, consolidating both geographically distributed data centers and even consolidating network servers lost in some closets in a federal building. Reducing the overall infrastructure footprint and associated maintenance and security risks were also a major driver. But data centers were not viewed as the place to store strategic data assets for data driven innovation. Data centers, data, and innovation were three separate silos that intersected by chance and not by purpose.
