Abstract
I recently had the privilege to help plan and coordinate a creative, powerful, and fun leadership development initiative for 275 cadets (the entire Class of 2026) at the United States Coast Guard Academy (CGA) in New London, CT as part of the CGA’s Link-in-the-Chain (LITC) program. The Link-in-the-Chain Program provides and perpetuates the tradition of linking Coast Guard Academy alumni with current cadet classes. This “linkage” is created between classes separated by 50 years. Academy alumni classes become active and involved with their LITC class through events already in place within the four years of Academy life including formal dances, homecoming reunions, the Dining-In tradition and graduation. The bonds and relationships formed, along with their physical presence and moral support, are critical to carrying on history and traditions - all part of the Academy experience.
