Business Process Innovation - Post Covid

Abstract

Innovation is how work got done when I was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at the US Census Bureau and the Director of National Technical Information Service (NTIS), US Department of Commerce. The key driver for innovation was collaboration and teamwork among employees and contractors on pressing mission critical challenges. The Center for Applied Technology (CAT) at Census, for example, was a showcase for data driven innovation and the energy among employees working there was contagious. The physical spaces where we all worked, ate lunch together, socialized and collaborated turned into ghost towns during the global pandemic. The mission and continuous challenges didn’t stop, but agencies and contractors started to scramble and reimagine how work will get done in a new environment of working from home.
