ACT-IAC Customer Experience COI August 2024

Join the ACT-IAC Customer Experience COI August member meeting to experience human-centered design through a hands-on workshop. CX means understanding the needs of your customers and HCD helps to put them at the center of service delivery. 

Co-hosts, Shawn Chittle (NASA), Beth A. Martin (OPM), and Ted Perez (Mediabarn) will “show, don’t tell” techniques to lead a brainstorming HCD workshop and challenge you to practice the same in your own organization. Learn introductory methods and leave with ideas and a template or two to use.

About the Co-Hosts

Shawn Chittle studied engineering and flight science as an undergrad in the state of Michigan, with human computer interface post-grad study at MIT. Shawn began his tech career by co-founding TUCOWS.com in the early 1990s. His first full-time job was at Amazon.com in Seattle, which later led him to Boeing Commercial Airplanes (dream job) until moving back to NYC to work for FlightSafety International.

A lover of bagels and pizza while living most of his life in Lower Manhattan, Shawn never dreamed he’d leave NYC, but was recruited for Federal Service in Washington DC by the United States Digital Service out of The White House. Shawn’s first project was the COVID Task Force. He was then recruited to work at the Office of the Secretary of Defense at The Pentagon where he began to modernize and digitally transform departments like the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Mobility Command. Later he worked for the Joint Electromagnetic Warfare Center, designing — from scratch — a new Electronic Battlefield Management System which is in use today by U.S. Intelligence Community and the U.S. Military.

Now at NASA, Shawn co-founded the NASA Digital Service in early 2023 and is a service designer, product designer, and product manager on a range of technology initiatives for the Office of the Chief Information Officer. He also supplies technology products and services to missions like Artemis II Orion, scheduled to orbit the Moon in September of 2025 and land in September of 2026.

In his spare time, Shawn likes to bike ride around Washington DC and plays on a pool league team. But you can probably beat him. 

Beth A. Martin is a civil servant with over 20 years of practice in user experience (UX), communications, digital transformation, and innovation; currently, she is a Digital Services Expert (UX Designer) at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Beth previously worked at the FAA, FDA, and HHS; she is also an adjunct professor in UX design. 

 

Ted Perez Ted Peresis a Service Designer with Mediabarn with over 15 years of experience in HCD. When not improving digital Experiences, you can find him roasting coffee trying to hone his espresso skills.
