ZeroTrust Cyber, Phase 2

Call for Project Volunteers: Click here to volunteer

Summary:

In May 2018, the Federal CIO Council Services, Strategy, and Infrastructure Committee asked ACT-IAC to evaluate the technical maturity, availability for procurement, and important issues related to potential federal agency adoption of zero trust cybersecurity. The ACT-IAC report entitled "Zero Trust Cybersecurity Current Trends" was completed on April 18, 2019.

The Cyber COI is taking the lead for the next phase of the Zero Trust project.  The next phase includes developing a Zero Trust playbook based on modernization efforts occurring within agencies.

  • As part of a modernization activity within an agency, the security layer of a modernization project must be addressed, and a Zero Trust approach would make sense.
  • This would allow agencies get more comfortable with the concepts of Zero Trust and see that it is being actively deployed in organization successfully.
  • Look for government organizations that are engaged in modernization activities and are or would like to implement zero trust capabilities.
  • Propose a zero-trust option for modernization efforts vs utilizing already existing security approaches.
  • Ask that the project be allowed to partner with those modernization efforts in order to capture lessons learned that may be useful for the community.
