DESCRIPTION:

Biometrics and Identity Management at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) play a critical role in enhancing national security, border management, and immigration enforcement. Biometric technologies such as fingerprinting, facial recognition, and iris scans provide a highly accurate and reliable method for verifying individuals' identities. By integrating biometrics into various DHS operations, including border control, immigration processing, and law enforcement activities, the department can better identify and prevent threats to national security.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) mission is to safeguard our borders from terrorist threats; apprehending individuals attempting to enter the U.S. illegally, stemming the flow of illegal drugs and other contraband, all while welcoming legitimate travelers from outside the U.S. and legitimate commercial trade. The border mission is led by CBP Border Patrol Agents and Air and Marine Operations.

CMS has done extensive work to date in cloud enabling applications and creating user friendly tools and enhancing security. The agency is now embarking on its next level of IT modernization:  Platform Engineering.
