Health Community of Interest

Date Published: June 30, 2025

This report explores how digital health technologies—including wearable devices, mobile health apps, implants, in-home monitoring tools, and environmental data collectors—can improve data collection and research outcomes in federal health studies, with a focus on the National Institutes of Health's All of Us Research Program.

By evaluating more than 40 technologies across 5 key categories, the study identifies those most applicable to advancing clinical and analytical research. It recommends a phased adoption strategy that begins with wearable and environmental data sources, followed by the integration of implantable and remote monitoring devices. Successful implementation will require strong safeguards for data privacy and security, as well as adherence to interoperability standards and regulatory compliance.
