Jim Cook Appointed Vice President for Strategic Engagements and Partnerships at MITRE

The MITRE Corporation has appointed Jim Cook Vice President for Strategic Engagements and Partnerships. In this role, Cook will lead the company’s strategic engagement and partnership with government, the private sector and congressional stakeholders; and promote development of new impact opportunities across the federal, state and municipal space.

Cook was previously vice president and director of the Center for Enterprise Modernization (CEM). CEM is the federally funded research and development center sponsored by the Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service, and co-sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs. As director, Cook led MITRE's support of modernization efforts for civilian government agencies.

With MITRE since 2004, Cook served for four years as CEM’s executive director for public sector revenue and finance. He partnered closely with the IRS to develop a strategy to modernize IT and business functions.

"Jim is a highly respected member of our executive team, and has been a leading voice in the development of MITRE’s formal partner engagement strategy for several years," said MITRE President and CEO Jason Providakes. "Over the years, through his leadership of CEM, Jim has established and nurtured significant and long-running partnerships with a range of organizations—in industry, academia and the public sector. I feel strongly that he's the right person to lead our partnerships, and create the strategy, norms and best practices that will establish MITRE partnerships with external thought leaders to create solutions for a safer world."

Cook has more than 30 years of consulting, systems integration, program management, and organizational change management experience in the public and private sectors. He worked for nearly two decades with federal, state, and international tax agencies. His private sector work was focused on banking and financial services.

In 1997, Cook became one of a handful of industry leaders to receive the IRS Commissioner's Award for his leadership in helping modernize the agency's tax administration business processes and systems. He is a two-time winner of Federal Computer Week's FED 100 award for government and industry leaders who have played pivotal roles in the federal government IT community.
