SBA's BiTS team operates like a start-up within the agency. We're a small group of technologists and strategists—designers, product owners, engineers, and content aficionados who are working to modernize the agency's digital and IT infrastructural presence. We're looking for an individual who is mission-oriented, an excellent communicator, has practical experience, and is eager to learn, lead, and do. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is a believer in the power of innovation manifested in people, process and technology.

The Full Stack Developer will be part of an agile delivery team focused on delivering new customer-facing web-based applications with an emphasis on functional value and usability across devices.  Your primary responsibility will be to develop, test and implement these applications. 

Base Requirements

  • Industry experience building web applications.
  • Experience with JavaScript.
  • Experience using modern front-end libraries (e.g., React, Vue).
  • Experience using productive frameworks (e.g., Express, Hapi).
  • Experiencing using cloud infrastructure and platform services (e.g., Amazon Web Services).
  • Experience doing Test Driven Development (TDD), as well as automating regression tests.
  • Excellent coding, problem solving, and debugging skills.
  • Ability to work in Washington D.C. office (located by the Federal Center SW Metro)
  • U.S. Citizen

 

Bonus Experience

  • Experience with MEAN/MERN stack is a plus.
  • Understanding of web services technologies such as REST, SOAP, HTTP and JSON.
  • Experience using Node.js, ES6, React, Redux, Webpack, Mocha, Chai, SCSS.
  • Experience with 508 Compliance and Accessibility.

The UX/Product Designer will be part of an agile delivery team focused on delivering new customer-facing responsive web designs and web-based applications. You are able to take your designs from pencil-on-paper sketches to the final visual design mockup.

What you’ll do

·        Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes and full visual mockups consistent with the SBA brand, image, intent, mission, and vision.

·        Deliver final design assets for developers to implement on the live website.

·        Work with product managers in defining goals and requirements.

·        Collaborate with a lead designer, content strategist, and developers in delivering the best design solutions.

·        Design and conduct user research and usability tests.

·        Translate insights from user testing and feedback from peers into meaningful action.

What you’ll need

·        Experience; a portfolio showcasing at least 2-3 years of UX/Interaction/Product design experience with shipped products and websites.

·        Creative problem-solving abilities; you are a big-picture, strategic thinker that keeps the users in mind.

·        Attention to detail; you have strong visual design skills and aim for pixel perfection in your work.

·        Good verbal and communication skills; you can articulate your design decisions and explain your designs to cross-functional teams.

·        Ownership; you are proactive and can own your part of the project without much oversight.

·        Fluency in design tools, particularly Sketch and Invision.

·        Ability to work in our Washington D.C. office (located by the Federal Center SW Metro)

·        U.S. Citizenship

Bonus points if you have

·        Design agency experience.

·        Illustration and visual storytelling skills; you can take complex concepts and simplify them visually.

·        Knowledge of HTML/CSS and Drupal.

·        Experience working in an agile environment and with JIRA.

The Visual Designer will be part of an agile delivery team focused on delivering new customer-facing responsive web designs and web-based applications. You will play an integral role in improving the look and feel of our web presence.

What you’ll do

·        Take wireframes and translate them into high-fidelity, visual UI mockups and prototypes consistent with the SBA brand, image, intent, mission, and vision.

·        Deliver final design assets with annotations for developers to implement on the live website.

·        Produce compelling illustrations that simplify complex business and financial concepts for millions of small business owners.

·        Push our branding and illustration style to keep things fresh and interesting.

·        Collaborate with a lead designer, content strategist, product managers and developers in executing the bold yet elegant design solutions

What you’ll need

·        Experience; a portfolio showcasing at least 3 years of visual design experience for web and/or mobile, or at a similar capacity as a product designer.

·        Storytelling skills;  experience with visual storytelling including editorial illustrations, data visualization, and/or animation.

·        Creative problem-solving abilities; you are a big-picture, strategic thinker that keeps the users in mind.

·        Attention to detail; you aim for pixel perfection in your work.

·        Good verbal and communication skills; you can articulate your design decisions and explain your designs to cross-functional teams.

The Product Owner will be part of an agile delivery team focused on delivering new customer-facing web-based applications with an emphasis on functional value and usability across devices.  Your primary responsibility will be to define and provide product vision, lead a cross-functional team of creative and technical resources, and build relationships with internal stakeholders. Among other things, you will: 

  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify business problems and construct high-level product epics, features and user stories.
  • Gather requirements from stakeholders and create product requirements based on data-driven opportunities.
  • Work with UX designer to define requirements for how a prospective user interacts with the SBA's digital platforms to accomplish their desired task(s).
  • Work with analytics and UX teams to aggressively test and optimize, improve site conversion funnels.
  • Collaborate with other product managers, developers, business analysts and software architects to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain web and desktop-based applications.
  • Partner with other product managers/owners and key stakeholders to formulate, coordinate and evangelize product roadmaps and strategic plans.
  • Possess outstanding leadership and motivational skills—a willingness to empower as well as inspire commitment and positive attitude in the team.

Base Requirements

  • Practical experience as a Product Owner/Manager or Business Analyst
  • Web-based product experience
  • Prior work experience in Agile Environment
  • Ability to work in Washington D.C. office (located by the Federal Center SW Metro)
  • U.S. Citizen

Bonus Experience

  • Experience managing/configuring Drupal or another content management system.
  • Experience using JIRA/Atlassian Suite.
