Workforce Management

Developing a Workforce for the 21st Century is a key driver of transformation identified in the 2018 President's Management Agenda and is part of ACT-IAC's strategic priority.

Through the Evolving the Workforce Community of Interest, ACT-IAC endeavors to:

  • Advance the President’s Management Agenda (PMA) through projects, meetings, and conference presentations to Develop the Federal Workforce for the 21st Century
  • Provide a forum for studies and analysis of public sector human capital management issues
  • Provide regular information and access to Federal Human Capital experts through our monthly program offerings, ongoing projects, and workforce sessions at Imagine Nation
  • Partner with government agencies to pilot and apply recommendations from COI projects and studies
  • Bridge communication between the IT and HR communities within the federal government

ACT-IAC Announces Federal IT Planning Guides

February 9, 2023 – Fairfax, VA. – Today, the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC), the premier public-private partnership in the government IT community, announced the release of its “Outlines for Key IT Planning Documents.” This guide provides best practice ideas for developing and structuring federal agency IT planning documents. The guide provides outlines for:
1. IT Modernization Plans
2. Cloud Computing Adoption Plans
3. Zero-Trust Architecture Plans
4. IT Workforce Strategic Plans

ACT-IAC White Paper: Bridging the Gap in Federal Succession Planning - Executive Summary - June 2012

Succession planning in Federal Agencies is both mandated and a generally-acknowledged “good thing”. At the request of several agency human capital and information technology leaders, the ACT-IAC Human Capital SIG conducted a study exploring Federal succession planning programs from both the perspectives of the human capital community and the IT operations managers’ community.

This examination of Federal succession planning practices and perceptions was undertaken at the request of several members of the American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) Human Capital Shared Interest Group (SIG) Government Advisory Panel. The Human Capital SIG agreed to examine the state of succession planning across the Federal Government, review specific agency experience, and report the current situation as we found it, as well as make recommendations for improvement.
