Senior Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor, Office of the Secretary
Henry Young is Senior Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of the Secretary at the United States Department of Commerce. Henry’s policy portfolio includes, among other issues, artificial intelligence, advanced communications, supply chain risk management, cybersecurity risk management (including IoT), lawful access to encrypted information, privacy, and cybersecurity. In his role, Henry collaborates with partners in the U.S. Federal Government as well as foreign governments and the private sector, to develop policies that address challenges in these areas and improve our national and economic security through law, policy, and the use of NIST’s tools and guidelines.
Prior to joining the Department of Commerce and NIST, Henry worked in the Department of Commerce’s Office of the General Counsel and at the Brookings Institution. Henry holds a B.A. in political science and sociology from Tulane University and a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law.
