President Signs Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018
On January 14, 2019, President Trump signed the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act. The law follows a multi-year effort that began in 2017 with the U.S. Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking. The commission's report addressed strengthening privacy protections, improving secure data access, and enhancing the government’s capacity to generate and use evidence in policymaking. The law also incorporated the OPEN Government Data Act, which requires all non-sensitive government data to be made available in machine-readable formats.
