The Future of Work Part 2: Career Compass - Exploiting the Power of Data and Technology to Prepare the Workforce for the Future

Monday, October 21, 2019 - 11:00am to 11:20am
Center Stage

IT workers have a unique role to play in the changing world of work. The IT profession has matured from merely imposing technologies in order to change how work gets done, to applying technologies to support business needs. Now, the IT profession can embrace a new role -- enabling the workforce to continuously adapt, by smartly leveraging the data and advanced technologies we have at our disposal. This is no small feat. We will look through the lens of the NSF Career Compass Challenge prize competition, which elicited prototypes of tools powered by advanced technologies to help people find their place in the future world of work, and explore: What did we learn from this challenge, and what do we need to do next? Can we begin to change the culture from one of lifelong work in a particular field, to one of lifelong learning and application to many fields? How can each of us be a part of the change?

Speakers:

Dorothy Aronson – Chief Information Officer, National Science Foundation

Robyn Rees – Senior Advisor for Human Capital Transformation, Department of the Interior
