Abstract

Drawing upon the lessons of the private sector, this Executive Order will enable agencies to reduce costs, better protect sensitive data, deploy shared services and improve the user experiences offered to the public.  HIghlights of the E.O. include:

  • Supports a strong leadership role for agency Chief Information Officers (CIOs)
  • Ensures that agency CIOs are a member of the senior leadership team, reporting to agency heads
  • Ensures that agency CIOs have the ability to influence and lead decision-making across components and drive an agency-wide view of IT
  • Empowers Agency Heads to quickly hire critical technical talent for their agencies
  • Prioritizes shared services, include modern email and cloud-based services, so that agencies can better adopt modern systems
