Federal Data Strateggy at IT Management & Modernization COI May Meeting
Featured Speaker: Lucas Hitt, Chief, Communications Division, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis
Join the IT Management & Modernization (ITMM) Community of Interest meeting to hear guest speaker Lucas Hitt discuss the new Federal Data Strategy. The Federal Data Strategy will define Principles, Practices, and Action Plans to deliver a more consistent approach to federal data stewardship, use, and access. The Federal Data Strategy development team will also test solutions and assumptions along the way with The Data Incubator Project, which will help identify priority use cases and methods that should be replicated or scaled.
About the Speaker
Lucas Hitt is the Chief of Communications for the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, one of the nation’s premier statistical agencies. In this role, Lucas is responsible for all aspects of internal and external communications – including data dissemination and accessibility – as well as statistical and data policy, and legislative and intergovernmental affairs.
In 2018, Lucas joined the project management team developing the Federal Data Strategy, a joint effort between the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Small Business Administration, the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Science and Technology Policy and a key cross-agency priority goal of the President’s Management Agenda. From 2016-2017, Lucas served as the deputy executive director of the U.S. Commission on Evidence-based Policymaking overseeing the Commission’s operations and staff support, and leading negotiations for the Commission on the development of the Foundations of Evidence-based Policymaking Act, which was signed into law in January 2019.
Prior to joining the Bureau, Lucas spent many years as a consultant advising state and local governments, non-profits, and corporations on strategic communications, political strategy, and government affairs. He is the former legislative director at the Air Force Association and a former aide to U.S. Senator Ernest “Fritz” Hollings of South Carolina.
BEA is the source of many of the nation’s most closely watched economic indicators including key figures such as GDP, Personal Income, Trade in Goods and Services, and State Personal Income. BEA’s Communications Division handles a broad portfolio encompassing policy coordination and communications functions, including the Bureau’s websites, BEA’s journal the Survey of Current Business, all public, media and congressional affairs, and a variety of other internal communications and planning functions.
