Paul R. Brubaker
Deputy Chief Information Officer for Account Management, Office of Information & Technology (OI&T)
Paul Brubaker serves as the Deputy Chief Information Officer for Account Management (AMO) for the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA),Office of Information and Technology (OIT). In this role, he provides real-time, strategic leadership to the IT team, the three VA Administrations and VA Staff Offices what innovative technological tools that best supports the VA mission to our nations Veterans.Prior to this role, Mr. Brubaker served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary, Cybersecurity forthe Department of Energy(DoE).Mr. Brubaker led a team responsible for developing and executing plans for applied research at DoE’s National Labs, academia and industry. His team created a hardened and resilient energy sector capable of identifying, isolating and mitigating cyber-attacks while maintaining critical operations. His key achievements resulted in the awarded of $50M in cooperative research studies to transform cybersecurity in the Energy Sector.
Prior to joining DoE, Mr. Brubaker served as the Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) Transformation Executive for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Information and Technology. He supported the DevSecOps mission of improving customer experience and Veteran outcomes by enabling teams to deploy innovations, applications, and system upgrades more frequently and rapidly.
Previously, Mr. Brubaker led the Alliance for Transportation Innovation, advocating for policies and programs to dramatically improve the safe, efficient, and sustainable movement of people and goods. He also previously served as Chairman of the Board of the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) and as Administrator of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) under President George W. Bush.
Mr. Brubaker’s previous experience includes executive positions at Cisco Systems, SI International, and Litton PRC. He has also served across the federal government in positions at the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Transportation (USDOT), U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Oversight, and for the U.S. Government Accountability Office (US GAO).
Mr. Brubaker is a recipient of the DoD Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the Secretary’s Gold Medal from the USDOT, AFFIRM Federal IT Executive of the Year, and is a two-time Fed 100 winner.
