This White Paper provides FAA and its FTI-2 Team with information regarding Wireless options as carriers decommission the traditional voice-grade and digital TDM infrastructure currently used to service more than 4,000 FAA National Airspace (NAS) locations. Wireless in this context means any Wide Area Networking (WAN) transport technology that does not require an actual wire-line terminating to the NAS facility, including traditional cellular services, line-of-sight microwave, satellite, and various radio technologies. Each of these technologies are presented with respective advantages, disadvantages, and financial impacts.
