On February 11, 2019, President Trump issued an Executive Order on "Maintaining American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence." Michael Kratsios, the deputy assistant to the president for technology policy, explained in Wired op-ed why America needs a national AI strategy. Darrell West at the Brookings Institution published a blog assessing the executive order which will be part of the discussion. The Department of Defense also developed its own Artificial Intelligence Strategy in 2018.
Dr. Darrell M. West, Vice President of Governance Studies and Director of the Center for Technology Innovation at the Brookings Institution. He is founding director of the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings and Editor-in-Chief of TechTank. His current research focuses on artificial intelligence, robotics, and the future of work. Prior to coming to Brookings, West was the John Hazen White Professor of Political Science and Public Policy and Director of the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University. Dr. West is the author or co-author of 24 books including The Future of Work: Robots, AI, and Automation (Brookings Institution Press, May 2018).
