Acquisition Excellence 2019

Tuesday, March 12, 2019 - 07:30 AM - Sunday, April 21, 2019 - 05:00 PM EDT

The “Big Bang” of acquisition innovation is gaining power as it spreads government-wide, from bottom to top and side to side. The most expansive explosion of transformational change in 25 years just keeps growing, motivated by mission-driven urgency. Government needs to buy faster at the cutting-edge of technology. The pressure’s on to shrink lead times, shorten delivery cycles, and flex to innovators’ needs.

Acquiring obsolete, or soon to be dated, technology no longer is good enough. Agencies need to buy tomorrow’s solutions today using streamlined and expanded procurement authorities. Industry and inventors are leading the exponential solution innovations, so government is finding ways to engage new suppliers with new business models. The government workforce is gaining new skills to buy digital technology, discovering how to work alongside ‘bots, employ artificial intelligence, and protect supply chain integrity. Leading program and procurement professionals are working toward a future of embracing risk and managing it, building deep market and supplier intelligence, communicating continuously and collaboratively with industry, reducing the total cost of owning and maintaining what they purchase, and brokering new kinds of relationships with nontraditional suppliers.

This is Acquisition Innovation in Action, our theme for the Acquisition Excellence 2019 Conference. We’ve moved past introducing innovation. It’s time to explain how it’s succeeding and spreading.
